Elwood is a Melbourne suburb known for its beachy feel, leafy streets, girls in active wear and some great Art Deco buildings. This print brings together some of the local architecture and two palm trees. It took me few years to finally organize myself and choose which ones to draw. Sadly, many buildings couldn't fit here but for those who are interested, here is the list:
Point Ormont "tower". Seriously, I don't know how to call this structure.
Woy Woy
St. Columba's Church School (is it a church? Is it a school? Is it both?)
Las Palmas (are we in Miami?)
The Beach Schack (coffee, yes please!)
"The Turtle" (we all agree to call this building by it's old nickname"
Nine Bluff Avenue (one of personal favourites)
117 Ormond Road (opposite from this there is a cafe to sit at while drawing)
Windermere (oh this one is fantastic!)
Surrey Court (as medieval as it can go in 20th century)
De Mont Rose (another favorite. I hope someone buys this building and renovates it and makes a cafe in its inner courtyard because I haven't seen anything like this building in Melbourne)
Jerry's (coffee, toasties and resilience against the flood!)
Two little buildings on the Ormond rd./Broadway/Glen Huntly rd. roundabout. (one has a turtle drawing on it's facade, another is a popcorn shop :)
Classy black and white look would fit most of the interiors.
